Tad Lathrop
Tad Lathrop is co-author of Discover Jazz, a new book-and-multimedia exploration of jazz history, artists, recordings, and cultural impact. He is also the author of This Business of Music Marketing and Promotion, a widely used text on all phases of selling music to the listening public, and This Business of Global Music Marketing, a guide to doing business in the international marketplace.
Lathrop produced Jazz: The First Century, edited by Smithsonian Institution Curator of American Music John Edward Hasse, nominated in 2000 for the Jazz Journalists Association Book of the Year, awarded the Bookbuilders West Certificate of Excellence, "highly recommended" by NPR and Jazz Notes, and acclaimed as "a major contribution to understanding jazz" (Library Journal) and "jazz history at its best ... [setting] a standard that will challenge future jazz historians" (Mississippi Rag). Lathrop has directed publication of more than 50 other books on music and the performing arts.
A guitarist, music writer, and alumnus of MTV Interactive, Billboard, CBS Publishing, and Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI), Lathrop has developed educational music programming for the K-12 and college levels and has lectured on music and music business topics at the City University of New York and in San Francisco State University's Music Recording Industry Program.
Outside the music industry, he has brought his communications, marketing, writing, and editorial expertise to such diverse companies and institutions as Charles Schwab, McCann-Erickson Advertising, and the University of California, Berkeley.
